Four new astronomically related properties were inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2023

They are the Eise Eisinga planetarium, Netherlands; Prehistoric sites of Talayotic Menorca, Spain; Hopewell ceremonial earthworks, Ohio, USA; and Kazan and Engelhardt astronomical observatories, Russian Federation.

For more information see the UNESCO–IAU Portal to the Heritage of Astronomy.

The UNESCO–IAU Astronomy and World Heritage Initiative has really come of age, as all the work put in the decade following the International Year of Astronomy 2009—including the establishment of the Portal to the Heritage of Astronomy itself and the publication of two ICOMOS–IAU Thematic Studies on astronomical heritage—continues to bear fruit.
